The George officially opened it's doors for business during 1916, but controversially was not granted a license until after 1918, even then the license granted was only done so with many restrictions, because it was said that drunkenness would affect yard workers production, which was needed to produce munitions for the war effort. The George along with the Alfred was sold to Thompson's during 1920. Until recent years the George had it's own 'well kept' bowling green, but has been developed with houses ' FairwaysView'. See Central Drive for more.

The George itself was eventually demolished during 2014, making way for another housing development. The last address of the George was 103, Central Drive, Walney-Island, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, LA14 3HZ.
